Thamesbeat was the name given at the time to the particular style of music that The Pleasers were producing. The name stuck after a radio interview with Richard Skinner on BBC Radio 1 in the late 70's who suggested to The Pleasers that their sound was very similar to The Beatles Merseybeat sound of the 60's. After which a member of the band said as a joke "No how can it be, we're all from London so its not Merseybeat, its Thamesbeat", and from then on it stuck!
