Description
Reverberations: The influence of Steve Reich
7 - 8 May 2011 - Concerts both days at 11am, 2pm and 6pm
Barbican Hall
Nearly half a century after Steve Reich made his first, pioneering, tape loop experiments, his music remains a vital inspiration. Successive generations of musicians have discovered and drawn inspiration from his perpetually-shifting melodic patterns and mesmerizing rhythmic evolutions. His influence crosses boundaries, a thread that draws together the disparate worlds of classical, jazz,
rock, electronic and world music.
To mark the composer’s 70th birthday in 2006, the Barbican presented Phases : The Music Of Steve Reich, a comprehensive survey of his work which included most of his published music, dance and audio-visual projects up to that point. For his 75th birthday, in 2011, we follow up with Reverberations: The Influence Of Steve Reich – an event which couples four London premieres of new Reich compositions with music written by many of the artists that have come in his wake.
