I ain't really into jazzed-out grooves like that, but this dude's jams soulful as a sunday morning and syncopated crazy, got me floatin like I'm on some kinda space voyage. In-the-zone type stuff. 💫🎷

I will say though that I don't think some of the artists in this discussion are "expanding boundaries" at all. When you look at recent Grammy winners/nominees who are popular among modern jazz nerds like Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Esperanza Spalding or John Scofield, these people are really pushing some serious limits with genre-bending, tonality, rhythmic complexity and instrumentation, and we're not even talking about the seriously crazy shit out there like John Zorn or Otomo Yoshihide. While I like Thundercat, most guys combining jazz with funk or hip-hop do so in the most predictable fashion, and the idea itself isn't exactly new, it's been done for decades. Playing some Ahmad Jamal chords over a typical neo-soul drum sample is overdone, not breaking new ground. I basically have the opposite problem as the aforementioned gatekeepers: if anything, these musicians are not nearly innovative or experimental enough.

Thats probably one of the most moronic things i have ever heard, how close-minded you have to be. Also who cares about rhythmic complexity, instrumentation and the other shit, if you don't have style and certain edge (like Kamasi and thundercat) all your shit doesn't matter.

A lot of the people who praise Kamasi do so on the basis of "rhythmic complexity, instrumentation" and so on which is why I felt it necessary to mention it, I thought that was obvious. Even more obvious is the fact that it's hard to have "style" or "edge" in jazz without your own sense of rhythm. It's one of the most common and standard opinions people have had on jazz since its inception. You'd have to be extremely out of the loop to not know something so basic, which, judging by your charts, is now making sense to me.

Wow, this man's music is simply incredible, he definitely has THE GIFT of all the jazz legends of yesteryear. Why do kids these days listen to hip hop when they can be expanding their universe listening to music like this? It's beyond me.

Listening to H&E, I died and was reborn multiple times in alternate universes in a split-second. Vi Lua Vi Sol sounds like Jazz from the future.
