One day you’re 17 and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life.

is it just me, or are the drums distractingly oversimplified on this track? i hear what people are saying about it sounding over-produced...but i'm still such a softy for their sound

I agree that it's more 'produced' sounding, but only compared to their first album...

I know what you mean -- it's just a touch too glossy sounding during that part. It's possible we're just hearing really good EQing/mixing/etc. going on there, although who knows -- there could be autotuning or a lot of other things happening, too. When it comes to production, especially for vocals, I think it's really tough balancing act to bring out a great performance without altering the original sound too much or using too many tricks. I've always felt like autotuning is cheating, but then again, is using a little autotune on a couple of notes all that different from doing fifty dry takes to make sure every note is perfect? I dunno, just a few thoughts... But I do hear where you're coming from. I kinda miss the simple, understated sound of their first record.

Maybe a tad overproduced, but still sounds honest and its strength as a track comes from the songwriting, not the studio tricks (just my two cents!). And that vocal harmony at 2:45... Man...

Love it. I think it's very transitional, and essential for where they are in their music.
