This page is for R&B singer Dalia Reid, who is usually credited as just Dalia, to set her apart from the 2 (or more) other singers who use this moniker. Her album releases are 1996's Dalia, 1999's Bring It Home and 2000's It's About Love - tho their is some overlap between the tracks on the 3 releases.
In today’s world of R&B music, artists tend to place greater emphasis on their image than their music. Consumers are fed a forgettable mix of designer soul and meaningless lyrics from disposable artists who have no real feel for the true yearnings of the consumer’s heart.
“True music influences, stimulates, and enhances the listener” says the soulful artist Dalia. “A real song has an enduring affect on those it touches”.
A meaning, a lot of feelings, and superior lyrics complimenting beautiful music is what Dalia wishes to bring across in her songs, and she goes out of her way to achieve what she wants.
Born the daughter of two ministers in Greensboro, NC, Dalia started singing in church at the age of eight. Although young, Dalia was no anonymous member of the church choir. Soon she performed lead vocals while her father played the piano and her mother and the choir sang background. This spiritual atmosphere instilled in Dalia an understanding of the power of music and its ability to change lives.
As Dalia grew, she honed her skills as vocalist and writer. She directed numerous gospel choirs and eventually as the lead singer for The Reid Singers, a contemporary gospel group.
At a chance meeting with producer Rodney Shelton, who co-wrote and co-Produced Keith Washington hit R&B single “Kissing You”, Dalia was encouraged to convey her deep, rich soulful vocals in a R&B format. Dalia agreed but only if each composition carried a meaningful message.
That message is apparent in Dalia’s music. From the celebratory resonance of the song “Family” which expresses that we are all the same regardless of our origin to the hypnotic pull of “My Baby”, expressing a woman’s gratitude for having a good man, Dalia flows with the same soulful vocal ability as notables Anita Baker and Toni Braxton.
Her emphasis on meaningful lyrics continues with “I Miss You”, a loving tribute to Dalia’s mother, who has passed on to a greater glory. It is a song so rich with the emotions of love, despair, and personal strength that the listener is moved to tears. One of those listeners was multi-platinum musician John Tesh who was so affected that he asked Dalia to perform her song on one of his projects in dedication to his mother who passed away as well. Dalia performed a version of her song as “Mother I Miss You” on John Tesh’s “Grand Passion” CD. The song became an instant AC hit and moved up the Adult Contemporary Charts reaching Billboard’s AC Monitor Top 25 the first week it was released. Dalia also worked with other artists in her career, i.e.: The Winans, Shirley Caesar, Bobby Jones, Edwin Hawkins, John P. Kee, Crystal Bernard and James Ingram, to name just a few.
Dalia has found the perfect blend of insight and talent. Such a combination is of benefit to all who hear her music.
