It's super interesting to see people say this =is a grower, becasue I'm listening through it right now for the first time and it's love at first listen. Already in my favorite R.E.M. albums

This album is insanely good, seems like one that needs to grow on people in order to appreciate it.

On the cover of the CD album booklet (at least in my edition), there can be seen two '4' numbers sort of like superimposed over the letters R in both "GREEN" and "R.E.M.", when looking at the booklet from a different angle, so that the words look like "G4EEN" and "4.E.M.". Does anyone know what this is about, and whether it's an intentional thing by the band / album cover artist and whether it holds any significance for them?

You know how most great albums have that one track you always skip? Well, not this one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_(R.E.M._album)#Packaging_and_artwork Although the title of the album is Green, the cover artwork to the LP is orange in color (this was changed to a lighter shade of yellow for some versions of the CD and cassette tape.) The reason for this is that, staring at the orange image for several seconds and then closing one's eyes causes a green negative image to appear. When viewed in this manner, the cover art appears to depict green grass.

I can't believe I used to dislike this album so much. I think this is one of the perfect albums by them.

I think I like Document better, but this album is in a similar vein, and so it continues to fascinate me. The Wrong Child is especially striking.

Lots of memories from this album: you are the everything, my wedding song, wrote an English paper on World Leader Pretend, and who can forget Stand as the theme song to the Chris Elliot sitcom,Get a Life?!?!

If someone told me Green was the overproduced b-sides to Document, I wouldn't doubt it. Not one of their better albums.

VERY underrated. Always threatning to climb to my top 3 of R.E.M. albums, each time I listen to it. (it's between this and Monster for #3, behind Automatic and Murmur)

what a great underrated (though it appears on the 1001 discs you must hear apparently - deservedly so...) album this one is. Probably my third favorite from them so far, after Automatic and Murmur. And what's with this talk about The Wrong Child being the worst song? :|

Agreed with Irma. You are the Everything is very beautiful. Stand, Pop Song '89, and World Leader Pretend are all excellent. The Wrong Child is the worst song on the album, and I really like all of the others. From Murmer to Monster, I'd probably rank this album right around the middle to near toward the bottom, which is more of a credit to how awesome REM's other albums were, as this one was pretty damn terrific.
