The band was formed around midsummer 2012 and set out early on with the intention to write instrumental post rock. The first bandname was Ocean Rift,but it was eventually changed into Seas of Years.
None of the members had any previous experience of playing this genre, all originally hailing from the metal scene and bands like AtomA, Enshine, Slumber, Obrero, Unchaste, Burning Darkness, Mortifera and Insision.
The first rehersals and writing sessions were although successful both with band chemistry and the songwriting process. At the end of the year the band had about eight songideas (of which 4 were chosen) ready and decided to enter a studio session to record their first EP "Ocean Rift". The first band name survived to become the title of the first EP.
