I actually like many of their post-Nu Metal era albums better, but they're probably not for people who're usually looking for more rocking and heavy stuff, you're right. Tho i'd still argue The Hunting Party was their heaviest album, but in a different way than the early ones.

Those first 3 Manson albums are all indeed really good, i recall you were quite a big fan of him, so thought i'd drop this comment here since i haven't said anything for a while now. Not really familiar with his newer work much, i have The Golden Age of Grotesque and it's decent too, but nothing on those first 3 records. Still need to check Holy Wood at least.

Mechanical Animals is great too, just checked it for the first time a few days ago. The first 2 albums i was familiar with for a few years already, but there was a time i didn't care for Antichrist Superstar that much (aside from some tracks ofc), now i've really gotten to that again too. Great album. How are you doing anyway? Also, did you ever listen to much Alice Cooper or David Bowie? They're some of Marilyn's biggest influences for sure!

I tried some Cooper here and there but never Bowie. I know he died some years ago but no maybe some songs but nothing much. maybe I try a best of or something to get an idea about what he's about. Eh, i'm alright. Could be better, but could be worse too :D Idk that much Bowie yet either, but i should also fix that, most of his work i've heard has been great, always reinvented himself, no album sounds the same ^. As for Cooper, you should check "Killer", "Billion Dollar Babies", and "Welcome to My Nightmare" at least. those 3 albums are Shock Rock classics. I also need to check more of his later work too.

Yeah, Miho was the founder of the band, but still Miyako is the "mastermind" who writes most of their music. I think they'll be fine with her on board, funny thing is that she was originally just a session member, but then became a full member and became the most productive of them haha. BTW, speaking of which (Miho's departure), did you hear their last song with her? It's an exclusive for a compilation, just checked it myself for the first time too, i knew it was out for a long time, but i kinda forgot to listen to it. Yeah, we used to have a huge VK community in here, it was kinda hand in hand with the whole "Otaku"/Anime culture then. I didn't like that stuff by then yet tho, i was also too young haha. Then it was kinda the same for me, i got into Anime and all that and through that into the Japanese music scene more as well. Idk if we have a huge following anymore now, it's not a trend like it used to be anymore at least (thank fuck, that was kinda pushing me away from it too lol), but i guess we still have some kinda "cult" following for that stuff too.

Oh I see Phobos is your most scrobbled Voivod album, that's my favorite one actually. I feel it's them at their most progressive. The other album with Forrest on vocals I didn't like that much, it had its moments but overall not as good as the other stuff they've done imo. Just got Dimension Hatröss on cd recently too with the bonus live disc and dvd, been listening to that a bit.

I really like Phobos for its atmosphere. Kinda science fiction/ dystopia /tech feel or so I don't know. It's totally different kind of thrash in my ear. Technical thrash maybe? Yeah they don't really have an album I don't like at all. Early stuff is great of course, love Rrröööaaarrr and Killing Technology, then there's the early 90s more psychedelic or even post-punky phase with Angel Rat and The Outer Limits, and of course some great more recent stuff like Katorz or Target Earth too. Latest one was good but not at their best level imo.

I got Phalaris yesterday, heard it twice now, and well, what can i say really? Just as impressive as ever before. Yesterday i will admit i was so tired and i couldn't focus on it much during the first listen through, but today i listened again as i had gotten more rest again, and while i could focus on it better, it is an amazing album once again! I feel it's more on the softer side again than TIW, and i don't think it's quite as good, but i really think this won't need as much time as that one however, TIW was more of a grower. But yeah with this i also had the "not what i was expecting" feel at first, as it was less heavy and more proggy this time, lots of clean vox too again like there were in Arche. I liked how Kyo used some totally new vocal techniques here again as usual, and last but not least... The Perfume of Sins, just wow, the first DEG track ever with actual proper blastbeats, and they really made the symphonic elements work well there this time too! Basically Sympho BM!

Good to see Iron Maiden up there as the overall top artist too, huge fan for a long time, although I haven't listened to them all that much lately. Saw them live for the 2nd time this summer though (first was on the AMOLAD tour so quite a bit earlier haha) on a festival where Kvelertak, Candlemass and Amorphis played too, seeing Candlemass also was pretty much a dream come true for me, especially since they have the vocalist from the debut album with them again now.

I actually liked how they more more diverse with albums like Gokusai and Shion, but the difference is that every song was still interesting. Now half of their stuff is that kind of lame Anime Rock/Metal, and i like some of that kinda music too (well mainly bands like Scandal or Stereopony etc.), but it's not really what i expect/want to hear from Mucc. Admittedly i still liked songs like Nirvana or Mother a bit, even Classic really, but these latest one are like... the forced "heaviness" just bothers me in some of these tracks, i like the ones that are actually more heavy and not the tryhard stuff, if that makes sense.

So yeah, if you're not into distorted sound at all, then you might wanna pass on that one. But if you feel like you wanna give it a try, then go for it. Personally i love how bizarre and twisted the sound of that album is. But then again, i'm into a ton of this Alternative stuff anyway :)

there's a lot going on on that song. even a bass fill or whatever. Not a huge fan of the chorus, which are getting more and more melodic I think but overall nice stuff. I liked the rest. great riffs and corey sound great too. how about you ?

Eh, it's not as good as The Chapeltown Rag, but i'll wait for the album so i'll be able to give a better opinion of it overall, maybe it'll work better in the context of the album, who knows...

The Chapeltown Rag has the better chorus for sure. but I like The Dying Song (Time To Sing) more. let's see how the album will turn out. So far so good ~

Yeah, i liked The Chapeltown Rag better overall... Man, Untitled is probably the best Korn album after the original run with Head, their most Industrial and kinda experimental! Took me a while to get into it, but now i'm really digging that one! A unique album in their catalog for sure!

Yeah it's their most creative work I think. Really liked it when it came out but now I don't listen to it that much. Quite good album

HOLY SHIT MAN! I just found out about this band because it was in my recommended videos on YouTube... This is some insanely fast and raw Thrash! Old VK, only released a demo tape, check it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUVkS_IY3CI

Yeah, i also have the Rosenfeld album Pigs of the Empire downloaded (i usually don't download stuff, only if it's not easily available on physical form, i.e. CD or vinyl, and it's not on streaming services, because then i have no other option, plus i don't have the money to buy everything either, even if it could be bought somewhere). But yeah i've been meaning to check that album for a while anyway so i gotta do that. Also early VK/Thrash Metal band that used the nazi imagery to shock people. They only released that one album tho, and some live album i think, got that downloaded as well.

Damn man, listening to Kisou again, and i gotta say, this album must have Shinya's best drums up to date. Tied with DSS as their best album for me, been for a long time, best of old and new.

I love Arche it's in my top3 with Vulgar and DSS. it's like Vulgar for me, It just feels awesome to me haha. and DSS... it's high quality stuff I think and I'm happy I like it because it deserves it

Idk as i've given it more time, i feel like Arche is longer than necessary, too long for it's own good, but yeah like i said i still like it too. DSS is the only one we both have in our top 3 (and to me it's their best one with Kisou as i said), i think Uroboros would be my 3rd favorite.

How is the new DEG? I'm waiting for my CD to arrive (hopefully it'll be here sometime around next week so i don't have to wait for that long). Will listen to some of their other stuff again meanwhile. Well, i don't want too many "spoilers", but i read on the RYM comment box from a few people that The Perfume of Sins from the new album sounds like Symphoblack at times, so i'm definitely excited to hear that, also reading comparisons between the opening track of the new album and Vinushka.

Definitely better than TIW. Much more inspired and better sound. Kyo showing more of his singing abilities here. I think it's a great album so far /// Schadenfreude has a progressive like feel . intensive but also emotional and slow parts. maybe that's what they meant with the Vinushka comparison I don't know. It happened.. I thought a while ago if Shinya will ever do a blast beat, and he actually did (kinda), that "soft sounding" kind of type which I found in many black metal songs. that's all for now enjoy it when you have it ! take care ~

Oh wow, i thought he did some blasts before too, in fact i was sure of that, but i must've been mistaken then :D My brother says he did "cheat blasts" with 2 hands 'cause they should be done with just one hand or something like that, idk, i don't understand the technical side, i'm not a drummer haha :D But yeah that's cool, definitely excited to hear the new album when i'll get my hands on the CD! :)

Trust me, they get even better from Eternium onwards. Just saw 'em live last Friday, and the new album has sounded better with each listen before that already, but now even more so after hearing most of it performed live. Killer live band! Sadly they've only did one tour that wasn't here in Finland, so people abroad would have to travel here if they wanna see them, but maybe one day, Marko (their lead guitarist and main songwriter) has said that he'd love to tour outside of Finland too, but yeah we'll see... Amoral is another band from Finland i'd recommend, started as Technical/Melodic Death Metal too, and then went more Power/Progressive Metal after a vocalist change. A lot of people didn't like the newer stuff but i always liked both eras.

That "cheat blast" is a good explanation though. When it gets blast like it's when he hits hard with both hands. I watched uroko where i mentioned it might jave a blast beat and he did exactly what you described

If you haven't heard of Tallah check them out, very 2000s nu metal sound plus unique vocals delivery, their vocalist used to do various vocal covers and original tracks on Youtube
