Haha, I couldn't agree more that Loop, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Galaxie 500 and Bark Psychosis are not shoegaze, but some of them contain elements which pertain to that style, particularly noise and texture. As for the person who asked "who cares about genres", unfortunately professional musicians have to care because otherwise the mainstream would have no means of categorizing an artist's output. Seems silly to us.

Well done. Spotted this tag on a Loop track. Loop were never part of shoegazing. The description at the top of this page sums shoe gazing up very nicely and accurately, an invention of the NME that was appied rather meanly to a handful of bands.

Just used this tag in support but not gonna again. It's a lost battle and anyhow, you cant stop later generations taking your phrases and giving them a different meaning. Let's face it, it's happened just in music dozens of times before. 'Techno' anyone? 'Grunge' (as the wiki writer said)? 'Hardcore'?The current massive overuse of 'shoegaze' used to really get my goat but I'm over it now. I'm happier this way.
