Low compatibility unfortunately, but it's still great to see Deafheaven, Drake, and Deftones in somebody else's charts!

They removed almost everything that made this site interesting. How the fuck are we supposed to find out anything about artists with only ten shouts and ten similar artists? This is the worst update I've ever been subjected to.

Answer: you’ll get five shouts and three similar artists instead! Let’s all have a big round of applause for the website designing geniuses at last.fm .com

I think the only way is to look at an individual artist/album/track and select the "add tags" thing. Unless you mean what everyone has tagged it, in which case, no, I don't know of any way to do that either.

Damn thing isn't even scrobbling anymore. I don't see this site lasting upwards of a year now.

It's understandable; the site is a shadow of what it once was. I'll get around to it soon. I grabbed the iTunes version which isn't going to be perfect quality but I honestly can't tell any difference between iTunes encodes and lossless sources most of the time so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Also, I went ahead and set up a forum due in rather large part to the removal of groups (and a rather large amount of other functionality) from last.fm. I'd like to see you there: http://fools-gold.org/forum/

Proggy post-hardcore sounds like something I'd enjoy. I'll look into remastering it too. I grabbed the iTunes version which might have better production than the other editions (A lot of albums get separate masters for iTunes).

I'll download it and tell you what I think. Remastering albums is actually pretty easy if you have the right software. iZotope RX' declipper is pretty intuitive; in recent versions it even shows you a histogram of the waveform distribution so you can see where the worst clipping is. It's usually just a matter of declip, normalise, save. If you need a download of it let me know and I'll PM you or something.

And yet, strangely, as much difficulty as I had getting into black metal, there are some albums that were still harder. I had to put Daydream Nation and Trout Mask Replica aside for literally years before I understood them. With Enslaved it took like a month, like I said, so that's not all that long in the scheme of things.

Black metal took me awhile too, even after getting into bands like Opeth. It was like a month of listening to Enslaved before I finally got it (it doesn't help that I started with Mardraum, which is one of their more abrasive albums). I think some of it's due to the fact that the mastering on so many metal records is just atrocious. Literally 5% of what you're hearing on a lot of modern records is just digital white noise because the records are mastered so loud. I've gotten to the point where I usually can't even stand to listen to modern releases unless they're on vinyl or I remaster them first. It also took me awhile to deal with some acts having awful politics. My top Sigh and WitTR records are probably Imaginary Sonicscape and Two Hunters, though IA and Diadem are classics. I'll probably get around to Arche in the next couple of weeks. I'm kind of disappointed they didn't do any epic-length songs on it but then again neither did Kroda on their latest and I loved that.

What was your old account? I might remember the name. I still need to get around to Arche, but Uroboros and Dum spiro spero have been satisfying me for awhile. Sigh definitely expanded my taste a lot as well; I got into them shortly after getting into Enslaved and Opeth and I think it was the first time I realised just how out-there metal could be. And yeah the amount of missing and broken features is just atrocious, and the communication from last.fm's side has been almost nonexistent so who knows when/if any of it is coming back. It's not even clear if they're ever restoring zero-count artists to our libraries. This is like a textbook example of how not to do a website update.
