https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9nAgjoEwCk always like dropping this gem. dont know if it will resonate, but if there is any hydraulic fluid in your joints, and you have to wash out the slag from your bedsheets on the regular, i imagine this track will hit on some level.

what did you think of the scrap.edx? it's cool if you didn't like it. I'm just gonna assume you followed me from the Synapscape artist SB. I was wondering if you had any recommendations. I used to really like Pneumatic Detach, Converter, Aural Blasphemy and Scrap.edx a lot. Heard a lot of this shit from Audio Galaxy, Soulseek, and DALnet IRC (EFnet and Undernet after DAL got cleanswept). Hard to remember everything I was into back then, but you had to invest real time & effort or luck out with word of mouth. Yeah you could follow all the label releases, but it wasn't like today where you can stream almost all this shit on YT or their bandcamp. MP3.com was pretty cool though, was basically bandcamp 1.0.

the grandpa slays. I really enjoyed his composing. it's not as gloomy as dark jazz and is much more upbeat (of course), but I think it might be something in the bass and piano parts that carries a similar mood

An interesting side note, only semi-recently have I gotten back into industrial. I was a huge fan/listener from the late 80’s until mid-90’s, when I got really into IDM. At one point I even wrote for an industrial magazine (got to call/interview Bill Leeb circa ‘96/97!). Might have been later. It was the day Fight Club came out because I distinctly remember wanting to have the interview done in time for me to catch Fight Club’s opening night (98?). I recorded the interview using an old analog voicemail tape thingy. Then I had to tediously type it all up and edit it down for the magazine (did that later, after the movie). Anyway, my interest waned in industrial that by the time the new millenium rolled around I only listened to the really vanguard/interesting artists, like Skinny Puppy, Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil, Fad Gadget and NIИ (as commercial as Trent became, he was and still is an extraordinary talent to weave pop hooks with dissonant electronics/guitars). 1/

What people called industrial became really formulaic in the mid-90’s and later. It seemed every artist was either a Skinny Puppy, Front 242, FLA, Ministry or NIИ clone. There were some really good finds though, that while inspired by aforementioned (or bands like Cabaret Voltaire, DAF, Clock DVA, Severed Heads, Portion Control, Dive, Throbbing Gristle, Killing Joke, etc.), still sounded challenging and utilized a personalized spin on the formula. Some that stood out at the time was haujobb, Kalte Farben, Lassigue Bendthaus, Mortal Constraint, Paracont. Anyway, I got bored and burned out. So for nearly two decades I only listened to the pioneers/2nd wave (mostly), eschewing most “industrial”, electro/EBM. So within the last few years my interest has been rekindled, but I still prefer the 70’s-early 90’s stuff. It became too sterile and lifeless, devoid of real human connection or authenticity. /2

I love Foetus, although admittedly I need to listen to more of Mr. Thirlwell’s oeuvre. He was a very busy beaver with all his Foetus related offshoots! I do like KMFDM/MDFMK/En Esch/Skold/etc., and KMFDM was one of my earliest concerts in the very early 90’s (‘91?). Their sound became really stagnant, imo. I’m rambling, but suffice to say, I really enjoy the crusty, pioneers that used analog synths, beat on metal, recorded factory noises and challenged the system. Just kinda re-listening to all the classics/favorites. Trying to find new bands in the genre that are exceptional, and unique. 3/end

First, thanks so much for the follow! 16k artists, wow! What is your go-to for finding new music? I must have created the website back in the day and then forgotten all about it. When I tried to create an account they told me my email was already in use, so there's that. I re(discovered) the website through Googling some of favourite musicians. What is a beansaclava? :D

That’s whacky, your story of rediscovery after so long. Typically I find new music by clicking on last.fm using the “similar artists” feature. Sometimes doing same in Spotify. I also go on invented sonic journeys wondering what people in various other countries listen to, like, say, searching for “Papua New Guinea traditional music” in Spotify and seeing what pops up and going down the rabbit hole. I have favorite genres, like most, but am pretty hungry for new sounds, genres, artists and noises. Beansaclava. Zoom in to my profile pic. A beans themed balaclava. Breakfast. On your face. :)

Thank you! I will check out the "similar artists" feature. Oh wow, so one day you will try and get an artist from every country that exists? That would be an interesting journey for sure. Do you also enjoy music in other languages than English? So are you a baked beans enthusiast?

Love beans. I enjoy all (good) music, regardless of language. Obviously I listen mostly to English derived music, but some of my favorite genres are sung in Arabic/Farsi/Pashto/Urdu (Nasheed/Qawwali). To me the emotion of the music is as important, if not more so, than the lyrics.

I listened to that album half to death. I don’t listen to it as much these days because I damned near killed it. It, along with DM’s Music For The Masses and Black Celebration (and several Skinny Puppy albums) I played nonstop. Reaaaaally wish my scrobbles went back to when I was a child.

What’s hilarious is I was just talking about removing my own foot last night. True story. Jokingly remarked to my significant other about having a bug bite on my foot that I was scratching intensely. She remarked bactine was a godsend. I retorted that gangrene had already set in so I was going to bind my foot tautly with a cord until it fell off. 100% true story, so your random comment was eerily coincidental. Only lie I told was that there was obviously no gangrene. It was well beyond that stage. More like mummified. I kid, I kid. But seriously, the convo happened just last night,

When I write these words, I do not do so in the normal fashion. Rather, I calculate the quantum wave function of several infinite sentences I could say and then collapse them into a single sentence, drawing from many different realities and dimensions as I do so. Furthermore, I send ripples across space time, changing not only the future but also the past, and altering things I have said and done previously. Therefore, when you are talking to me, you are conversing with infinitely many versions of me across dimensions in the past present and future, all converging into a single entity. Try to keep up, pal.

Well, it’s probably my favorite album of all time. And I generally listen to albums in their entirety. I semi-recently noticed that the play counts were not exact, so I spent like a day listening to the songs that were not numerically matching the others to bring them in to perfect harmony, minus the two bonus songs (which I don’t have access to via Spotify; need to burn my copy of the box set eventually). :)

Well, you must have some free time on your hands to manually create 'virtual' playlists, using 'play next' or 'add to queue' option on streaming services like Spotify or You Tube Music. It takes around 1 hour a day to make such a playlist. I mostly find new music on Bandcamp, looking through the genre tags. But that would be mostly underground music. For more mainstream music I check out regularly newalbumreleases.net. Somehow over the years I got such high numbers, it was not my intention-I just wanted to hear something new and surprising.

Just so we're clear, I love (most) people, but if you fake/double scrobbles I will deep six you. Be real. Be yourself. I want you to succeed. I want to look at your organically manifested play counts/charts, but faking scrobbles is hella dumb. And will be met with fierce resistance, including-but not limited to-guerrilla warfare, sudden evacuation of bowels (whose, no one knows?), hurled epithets about both your mother, and your fashion choices, blocking, and ultimately apocalyptic thermonuclear war. So, for the sake of your poor mother, and indeed humanity and the future of all animal life on this planet, don't fake scrobbles. And if you do, don't follow me. :)
