Hi Shy_Retirer! I saw that you have a pretty good taste in music and thought that you'd maybe like our music as well. We are three girls from the forests of Sweden and we are going to record our very first album in Woodstock this summer! We have a couple of songs up that we would love if you checked out! VIDAR - Phoenix and VIDAR - Ships. Let us know what you think (it's much appreciated) and also check out our cover of 'Kathy's Song' that we got the chance to play live for Paul Simon! Love, VIDAR

Good work! I bet she gives good hugs. I wish i had more money for gigs. Primavera is soaking it all up.

Yeah, I've heard rumours to that effect. I was considering taking earplugs, but that seems pretty wussy... I'll probably just resign myself to a tinnitusful weekend and hope I don't accidentally shout at too many people! By the way, not sure if you've already seen this, but: http://musosguide.com/sharon-van-etten-london-hoxton-bar-and-kitchen/13453

Yeah, that was me... properly made my night, that did! Definitely one of the best gigs I've been to in a long time (and would have been even without the Consolation Prize dedication, though that clearly pushed it up to splendid). And I love that you got signed goodies too, she's really the sweetest person. I'll keep an eye out for you at Mogwai, despite the huge improbability of being anywhere near you in a venue that size. Who knows, maybe I'll locate myself by engaging Stuart Braithwaite in a bit of a banter. I reckon he's a cheery bloke.

How good was that?! It's a shame I didn't spot you, but I think it's for the best; next gig we both go to I'll probably end up buying you the whole bar for introducing me to Sharon. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! x

Oh, I forgot to mention that Evangenitals is an AMAZING band name. That's going in my list of favourites, along with The Uncanny Fanny, Badgers Ate My Gazebo and Closed For Private Function (all of which are unfortunately only hypothetical, though one can only wonder for how long. Also all of which I have tried in the past - with varying levels of success! - to manipulate out-of-town hipsters into claiming to know before they became famous. Happy times.)

Ah brilliant, thanks for that. It's quite lovely. I'll try and don my trendiest clothes (a recipe for failure if ever there was one) and if I see you I'll give some sort of surreptitious wave. If you think your picture's ambiguous, mine really isn't going to be much use... well, I'm 5'8"ish, brown/red curly hair (masses of it) and likely to be wearing a blue coat. And probably looking decidedly untrendy. x

Also I'm really sorry to bombard you, but where on earth did you come across an SVE version of "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me"? That's one of my favourite songs (assuming it's a Smiths cover) and I'd love to hear what it sounds like by her. x

So this is pretty much the most belated shoutbox message ever, but thank you for the links; I haven't listened to the whole recording as I want to be completely unprepared for the gig on the 13th, but the single tracks are lovely. I had to juggle work but now I'm definitely able to go, though venturing into that area of London's going to be a new one for me. What's the venue like, and is it easy to find? As for Nina (and this is going back a few messages, so I apologise again!) I wasn't at the Roundhouse as I probably saw her in Brighton instead that tour - she usually plays down here, a huge advantage of having Fatcat on my doorstep. The only time I've seen her in London was at the tiny Betsey Trotwood gig last year, which was incredibly intimate and pretty much all request-based. Seeing her then almost makes up for the December cancellation, though I'm keeping my eyes out for promised rescheduling!

I'm seriously contemplating going to all three. Been listening to Standard Fare and Veronica Falls a lot lately and obviously Darren Hayman + The Wave Pictures would be mighty!

Do you already know Dark Dark Dark? If not, merry Christmas! http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/dark-dark-dark-concert/20031394-3737762.html The radio just played Daydreamer and probably brought me a better gift than Santa ever did.

Interesting! I don't really know any stuff by those guys but I've heard a lot of good things about both Dan MIchaelson and Moustache of Insanity. Will give both a listen!

Ya I'm pretty terrible like that - I actually have a shocking memory. Hope you enjoy the gig - I'm jealous. Went to see Withered Hand on Thursday, do you know him. It was in a tiny venue in Finsbury Park and was excellent!

I wouldn't have minded at all - but I just noticed the date it's on - it happens to be my girlfriends birthday! Curses. And she's already planned a night out so can't convince her to go to this for the evening to celebrate ;) Real shame as I haven't seen The Wave Pics in ages!

Ya I quite like Cargo as a venue. The giant beers notwithstanding! Have you seen the Wave Pictures are djing on Friday in Brixton at HDIF? Should be good after burning some catholics earlier on in the evening.

Brilliant! I've informed my family, friends and assorted loved ones that I shall be incommunicado for the month of March... or at least until a date is finalised. Also Freelance Whales are lovely; I recognise Hannah from the radio but hadn't clocked the band-name before now. I know you didn't recommend them exactly, but I noticed you listening to them earlier and thought I'd investigate. I think I shall be doing this more often. x

Cheers for the links! I really like "Consolation Prize". Great tune. Just saw she's playing in London in the New Year according to last.fm. As support though, rather than a headline show..

Hello! I was warned (as such) by a certain freak that I might be getting a hello. Hello's are always good. You get through a lot of music in a week - and good music at that! Have you any recommendations of where to start with Sharon van Etten? I coincidentally began trying to look up some stuff by her last week... Always good to meet another Hefner/Wave Pictures fan!

That was beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing! Who are She Keeps Bees, and would I like them? I'm guessing yes, but I like being pointed in directions nonetheless. x

Lady Lioness is amazing, thank you for the tip. I can't believe she has so much freely available to download! I'm going to have to assuage my conscience by keeping an eye on her gig dates... I prefer the earlier albums to the more recent (Winter Has A Way is just beautiful) and if you like them too it might also be worth your while to check out mum, Amiina or Efterklang, if you aren't already familiar with them? I'm sure you are, but it's worth making sure, as they are most lovely indeed. And Epic is great; I'm subject to the whims of my variable internet connection as to how much of it I can listen to on Spotify, but I'm getting my hands on a copy as soon as possible. Really hope she tours the UK sometime - please let me know if you see any dates! x

Hey! Just stopped by to see if you'd heard the new Sharon van Etten (you have) or were planning to go see Nina on her winter tour (you are). So all I can really do here is thoroughly endorse the below recommendation for Peter Broderick, particularly the new album (it has a song written from the perspective of a battery chicken - has that ever been done before?) and Float, which is from a few years back and much more instrumental than Home or How They Are. But you know, it's all good. x

Thank you! I like it, though it's quite simple. Curious to see the film it'll soundtrack. To be honest I think I'm going to be a fan of everything she does after receiving the loveliest handwritten note and extra CD in the post from Brooklyn yesterday, when I thought I was just going to get the BIWIL album. That's the kind of thing that earns undying loyalty from me.
