oh, you too have fantastic taste! swell! and yourself? i see that you dig boris, harvey milk and the melvins, quite a bit obviously. they were all fairly recent discoveries for me, and i'd like to dig a little deeper. i'm loving this kind of heavy music. any recommendations?

It depends on what you're looking for, really. His early pieces, which are 'First Recordings 1973' and the game pieces 'Lacrosse', 'Hockey', 'Pool', 'Archery' and 'Archery Rehearsal' are all excellent examples of experimental music, and I totally recommend them to someone like yourself who's pretty open-minded, but they can be pretty spotty so sometimes you have to appreciate the themes and ideas rather than the execution. One of my favourite Zorn albums is a really low-key improv album with a Japanese shamisen player called 'Ganryu Island'. 'The Big Gundown' is great, it's a collection of Zorn's interpretations of Ennio Morricone's music. 'Spy vs. Spy' is a covers album of Ornette Coleman stuff, and that album is just unremittingly violent. Apart from solo work, he has bands like Naked City (freejazz-grindcore-avant-garde), Painkiller (like Naked City but more extreme) and Masada, which is like an arabic jazz experiment. Masada is his most conventional output, if he has such a thing.
